Who runs the project
The Real Loss Project is independently run by an individual. It is not currently a registered charity or company. Contact thereallossproject@outlook.com for privacy questions, complaints or removal requests.
What a submission contains
When intake opens, we store your text, optional alias, submission time, consent version, review status and a hash of your private removal code. We do not ask for your real name or email in the story form. Reports contain a content reference, reason and optional explanation.
Your permission
Submitting is optional. We ask for consent to store and review your words, and publish them on this website if approved. This includes explicit consent for sensitive personal information you choose to include. Please leave out identifying information about other people, especially children. Consent does not include use on social media, in advertising or on merchandise.
Anonymous to readers
Only the project reviewer can access pending contributions. Approved text, alias and date are public and may be copied by readers or indexed by search engines. Your words can identify you even without a name. Do not share anything you would not want made public.
Storage and security
The website uses OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure. Hosting providers process connection information needed to operate the service. The app uses a temporary hashed connection identifier to limit repeated requests; it does not store your IP address in the story record. Reviewer sign-in uses ChatGPT. Readers do not need an account.
The application does not add analytics, advertising trackers or third-party embeds. Hosting and sign-in services may use essential cookies. Draft story text is not saved in your browser.
How long information stays
Pending stories stay in the queue until reviewed or withdrawn. Approved stories remain while they serve the project’s storytelling purpose, unless withdrawn or removed. The reviewer periodically checks whether content is still needed. Rejecting or removing a contribution erases its text and alias from the active database. Minimal reference and moderation records remain to track review decisions. Report details are retained while needed to investigate and handle the concern. Temporary rate-limit records expire after two hours and are cleared on a later request.
Withdrawing and requesting removal
Keep the reference and private removal code shown after submission. The form below removes your contribution and any replies from the active database. We cannot recover a lost code. If you lose it, email the project with enough information to locate the contribution; we may need to check that the request is yours. Do not send identity documents unless specifically requested.
You can withdraw consent at any time. This does not change the lawfulness of earlier processing. Removal cannot undo screenshots, search-engine caches or copies made by others, and provider backups may take longer to expire.
Your rights and concerns
You can contact the project to request access, correction, erasure, restriction or a copy of personal information you supplied, where applicable. We may be unable to link anonymous information to you without your reference. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
